Jackie Chan, the new Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid?
Wednesday, January 21, 2009Who can forget the famous Crane Kick stance delivered by Daniel (Ralph Macchio) to win the karate tournament in the 1984 Karate Kid movie? Do you remember that Mr. Miyagi was acted by Pat Morita who won himself an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor?
Guess who will act as Mr. Miyagi in the remake of the Karate kid movie? It is none other than Jackie Chan. The major difference of the remake in comparison with its original version is it will take place in Beijing, Asia rather than California and rumor has it that the shooting will start in this summer.
If what I heard is true, Chan will mentor Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith who has acted in The Pursuit of Happyness along his dad, Will Smith and The Day The Earth Stood Still featuring Keanu Reeves.
The movie will be a co-production with state-run China Film Group that will allow Columbia Pictures to bypass China's quota of 20 films import on a revenue sharing basis.
Well, I guess this remake of the Karate Kid will be a comical movie and can't wait to see what will the outwardly peaceful and serene Mr. Miyagi will turn into as Jackie Chan is well known for his comic kung fu characters.
