It Is Back To Life In The Slum For Slumdog Stars!

It is back to real life now in the slum of Mumbai for Azhar and Rubina, the child actors of the Slumdog Millionaire movie.

After meeting the rich and famous celebrities in Hollywood, the kids are finding it a bit tough going back to their life before the movie. I would be feeling the same way if Angelina Jolie asked for my autograph, got to wear nice clothes, slept in the crisp white sheet of a hotel room and walked on red carpets.

Many thanks to Danny Boyle who pay £20 each month as rickshaw transportation fee for going to and back from their English Language classes and also gave a bright red Nintendo DS to Azhar as a gift which the boy won't be able to use once the battery runs out as his home has no electricity. No to mention the tuxedo and pale blue dress that David Boyle bought for the children to attend the Oscars which are greatly treasured by the Slumdog stars till to this day. Rubina was quoted as saying that she felt like a princess walking down the red carpet.

It was a good idea by film director David Boyle to set up a £35,000 trust fund for the children to be split when they are 18 but how about improving their current slum lifestyle now? As Rubina's £480 has all gone to his dad treatment for a broken leg and a cellphone for herself and Azhar's £1,725 are used for his father's tuberculosis treatment, lives are back to the original state before the glitz and glamour that they have experienced in Los Angeles.

The promised flats for the kids' families are still no where in sight and the young kids must learn to readjust to their original life style. I guess the dream of living a better life is over, at least for now, for the kids and it is time to wake up to hard realities of life in the slum!

Can't anything more be done for the kids? I mean NOW, not a few years from now!
